Fly High with SEED

Division of Schools of Quezon City is located in Metro Manila adjacent to Marikina City.  Dr. Corazon C. Rubio, CESO VI acts as the superintendent through the appointment of Mayor Herbert H. Bautista.
Quirino High School is one of the schools in Quezon City. It is committed to providing the best quality of education, opportunities to all students and envisioned to produce globally competitive and God-fearing learners.  It is located at the ‘CITY OF STARS,’ Molave St. Project 3, Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines.  The school caters to students from all walks of life surrounded by a few executive villages. With 5 teachers and 200 students, the school started its operation in 1955.  At present, there are 139 teachers, 24 non-teaching personnel, and around 4,000 students under the leadership of Dr. Levita U. Ramos, School Principal IV, sustained with 10 classroom buildings and 1 administrative. QHS is enriched with computer laboratories with internet connections donated by the government, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and some from SEED (Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development) in which the students maximize the use of it during or after class hours.
Student Government, Clubs from different subject areas, YES-O Club, Si-SEED-lan are the active student organizations of the school.  Si-SEED-lan is the name of our SEED club composed of very active officers and members with Ma’am Rosalina L. Molina as the adviser. They keep Quirinians busy. The school continues to shine over the district, division, regional and national competitions and produced famous personalities such as Honorable Congressman Roilo Golez, the mother of our TV Host Richard Gomez, Globe Tattoo endorser Rio dela Cruz, and many more worth mentioning. The school’s activities are supported by the General Parents-Teachers Association and its ever-supportive alumni.
As one of the teachers of QHS, I’m so proud and fortunate enough to be a part of one of the most respected schools in Quezon City.  I started teaching at QHS on June 15, 2010, in which I witnessed unprecedented developments. Physics is my pioneering subject taught at that time with 4 teaching loads. It was followed by Chemistry the following year and is still the same up to the present.
On the one hand, joy and enthusiasm blend in my heart to continue the passion to teach to the fortunate learners aged 12 to 22 years old as imbued with this “to live is to serve everyone – making their most possible time valuable always.” At this time, I’m holding 4 classes from the 17 sections in the third-year level.  During discussions and or activities, I’m used to presenting models.  My scoring technique is raised to the multiples of 100,000 points. So, if the student’s score is 5 in usual scoring, in my case it costs 500,000 points.  What a high score to motivate them?  The students find those very interesting but not to some.  What does it infer?  As faced in the world of information technology, some students in this generation wanted convenience during discussions or activities despite varied motivational approaches.  They don’t like activities that get on their nerves.  They are praying for higher grades but less effort.  I really have to improve more as regards to my class dynamics. On the other hand, QHS students developed their competitive skills.  They always wish for many sporting events and academic challenges.  Many participate in basketball, volleyball, table tennis, chess, DOTA and dance invitationals, SCI-DAMA, interpretative dancing, quiz bee, poster making, and photography.  Moreover, they are also engaged in oratorical, speech choir, and other special performing arts competitions, where our students are declared winners.
