                                                     The Fruit of Global Collaboration:
                                                                Sharing of Updates
Philippine educational system now is starting to align with the international standards of education as to attain the best quality of education. Though lowest in rank during competition compared to other countries in Southeast Asia, the Philippine Department of Education (DepEd) is still finding ways for greater progression that nothing is impossible.  Last year, the DepEd started its program on the implementation of K to 12 (Kinder to Grade 12) Curriculum.  It is said to solve educational problems and meeting the international standards.
Quirino High School (QHS) which is located at Project 3, Quezon City Metro Manila, Philippines followed the directive of DeEd on the start of K to 12.  We are just so hopeful for its positive impact to the learners.

QHS is confined to tract the thrust of DedEd for quality of education. And that, QHS is committed to provide best quality of education and opportunities for all students.  QHS is also envisioned of producing globally competitive and God-fearing learners. The school caters students from all walks of life surrounded with few executive villages. With 1 officer-in-charge and 4 teachers and 200 students, the school started its operation in 1955.  At present, there are 138 teachers and around 4,000 students under the leadership of Dr. Levita U. Ramos, School Principal IV sustained with 11 classroom buildings and 1 administrative. QHS is enriched with computer laboratory with internet connection donated by the government, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and some from SEED (Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development) in which the student maximize the use of it during or after class hours.  Student Government, Clubs from different subject areas, YES-O Club, Si-SEED-lan are the active student organizations of the school.  They keep Quirinians busy. The school continues to shine over district, division, regional and national competitions and produced famous personalities such as Honorable Congressman Roilo Golez, the mother of the TV Host Richard Gomez, Globe Tattoe endorser Rio dela Cruz; and many more worth to mention.
Such positive impact at QHS, forms part the great contribution of SEED.  Everyone was tickled pink by the introduction of SEED (Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development) USA to QHS as for extending its good hands to all Quirinians.  It was made possible through the initiative of Mesdames Azura and Zaira in 2008, which unrolled the signing of contract between QHS Administration led by Dr. Arao and SEED USA in-charge. The contract was about granting 6 computer sets with internet connection paid by SEED USA for two years. The contract can be extended depending upon the cooperation of school officials and faculty members. Ms. Rosalina L. Molina, Master Teacher II of the Mathematics Department was made then as the contact person.
In 2009, Ms. Corinne Damas-Sandiford, SEED Schlumberger Manager in France took the initiative of introducing the SEED to the selected faculty members of the school. Present on the introduction were the QHS pioneering SEED teachers: Ms. Rosalina L. Molina; Ms. Lilia P. Aquino, Chairman of the Science Department; Ms. Cecilia H. Paguia, Chairman of the Mathematics Department; faculty members from the Science Department - Mrs. Estrelita L. Castro, Ms. Nelia M. Espesor, Mrs. Rhodita R. Rivera, Mrs. Jaqueline M. Sonza, Mrs. Micah Pacheco & Mrs. Florentina H. Mallorca; members from the Mathematics Department - Ms. Angeles T. Villarosa, Mr. Noly M. Cabaῆero, Mrs. Carmelita A. Gumabao; and members from the English Department – Mrs. Lucila V. Dizon & Mrs. Melanie T. Maculada.  Also present in the introduction were the gathered students from first year to fourth year.
In October 2010, Ms. Damas-Sandiford and Mrs. Gloria S. Bato (SEED Coordinator Philippines) introduced the “One Day Science Workshop” geared with the theme ‘ENERGIA’ with the ULINGAN kids from Project 4, Quezon City Philippines. The workshop blended the topics on SOLAR COOKING & FRUIT POWER EXPERIMENT in which the Quirinians felt excited, amazed and blessed with the very educational presentations of Sir Simon Lim & Sir Hafiz Azizi, both were SEED volunteers from Malaysia who facilitated the workshop.  An add-on to the workshop was the talk of Sir Hafiz on global warming issues.  Most of the pioneering SEED teachers were in the workshop together with the other faculty members – Mr. Ricky A. Sembillo, Mr. Junji P. Blancaver, Mrs. Carmelita V. Pingul, & Mr. Raymundo A. Tacneng.  Student-participants include the Si-SEED-lan officers and members led by their president, Dianne Dayandante and John Ian Baytamo, the vice president.
SEED ‘Water Testing’ workshop was poured on to the Quirinians in September 2011.  The students and faculty members enjoyed the most on how to test the water as regards to its potability and or its toxicity.
SEED Math Puzzle Collaborative project took place this May 2012.  The project oriented the SEED students of QHS on how to deal math and science problems.  SEED provided the Math Puzzle books to the students that travelled all the way from USA to the Philippines which was financed of course by SEED.  Claire Ann Dizon, QHS Si-SEED-lan president led the project very well that happened at Fit-Ed laboratory and at E-Library.
July 2012 exposed the SMART-WIRED and Solar Cooking Challenge.  This activity introduced cooking of different menus using SOLAR ENERGY from the sun with the use of SUNFLOWER SOLAR COOKER that the students found it really very challenging.
Quirinians are still praying that the SEED’s support to the school will never cease.  The students are gaining a lot.  International linkage or connection seems good.  In fact, John Ian Baytamo has already presented virtually via SKYPE during the YOUTHCAN 2011 based at New York City, USA with his adviser, Mr. Rolando R. Barcelon with the experiment title, SPECIALIZED STEM POWER.  The following year, we joined YOUTHCAN 2012, still based on the same location and mode of presentation.  There were two approved presentations. The first one was presented by JOHANNES PAOLUS SAN AGUSTIN, a junior with his "Jambalaya of Reasons to Save Our Mother Earth (SOME) - Dishwashing Liquid Made Easy at Home" with Mr. Barcelon as the adviser. John Ian Baytamo & Camille Manguiat, seniors with their adviser, Ms. Jaqueline Sonza presented the next. OMG! FABCON served their presentation title. Ms. Rosalina Molina took as the general overseer of the presentations.
QHS SEED is governed by the following SEED Teachers with their designations since June 2010 up to the present school year.
            a.  Ms. Rosalina L. Molina, QHS SEED Coordinator
            b.  Mr. Rolando R. Barcelon, QHS SEED Assistant Coordinator for Student Affairs
            c.  Mrs. Lucila V. Dizon, QHS SEED Assistant Coordinator for Communication
            d.  QHS Support Staff:
                            -  Mrs. Carmelita V. Pingul (English Teacher),
                            -  Mr. Junji Samuel P. Blancaver (Physics Teacher),
                            -  Mrs. Estrelita L. Castro (Chemistry Teacher),
                            -  Mrs. Florentina H. Mallorca  (Physics Teacher),
                            -  Mrs. Eloisa D. Lindo (English Teacher); &
                            -  Ms.  Milagros S. Concepcion (English Teacher)

At present, we do recognise and really appreciate the best support extended by our very own dynamic, approachable, friendly and dedicated School Principal, Dr. Levita U. Ramos to our SEED community.  May God continually pour great blessings to Dr. Ramos and to her family as well.
Another, we want also to extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents of the SEED students for their continued support especially to Mrs. Bella Yaneza, the parent of two SEED children in QHS. Mrs. Yaneza is an officer of the General Parent-Teachers Association.
Adding to the spice of SEED at QHS is the creation of Si-SEED-la Club in 2010 which makes the SEED students busy and productive for a purpose.  Every year, QHS Si-SEED-lan conducts election to elect new officers guided with our SEED teachers led by Ms. Molina.

The Si-SEED-lan officers and members convene twice a month usually first and last weeks.  The meeting follows a certain program with educational games or energisers and educational inputs for the club.

This last week of October, there will be a launching (elimination round) of “SEED Invitational Quiz Bee for the Environment” with the theme: Save our MOTHER EARTH for the Present and Next Generations.   The quiz bee aims to elicit the basic knowledge of the students in environmental issues with especial focus on saving our planet earth.  This may foster camaraderie between SEED students and non-members.  This is also intended to prop up SEED at QHS as to attract more members.  Participating teams will be composed of 4 members one from Grade 7, one from second year, one from third year, and one from fourth year.  The first three winning teams will receive certificates and medals plus a cash prize.  The fund for the prizes will ultimately come from solicitations.  The final round will be done on the third week of November.
Further, it’s so nice reminiscing things from the past and enumerating things in the present & others that may happen in the future.  We do look forward to that the SEED planted at QHS be always present in everyone’s heart, nurtured with the unsurpassed interest and passion to serve all that will eventually bloom at its best expected time.
Truly, the best collaborative efforts produce wonderful seeds in everyone’s heart.

The presenters are dreaming of another SEED school which might be present during the Global Education Cohttp://www.planetseed.com/blogs/backgrounder-introduction-my-schoolnference 2012 and could share the same experiences with SEED.
